When I first ventured into freelance work to build my experience, I experimented with new techniques and shooting styles tailored to each client's needs. I've worked with a diverse range of clients, from football coaches and drama groups to local businesses. All the video adverts and content I created for these clients can be found on my YouTube channel.
Early in my videography journey, I had the opportunity to work with the Labour Party, creating video adverts for their local campaigns. I produced three videos for Councillor Peter North, which had a significant impact on his campaign. In the Bricknell Ward (Hull), he won by a landslide, and the videos played a crucial role in that success.
As a frequent traveller, I enjoy exploring different cultures and the architecture of cities. This passion has led me to create videos that capture the essence of these places. Inspired by filmmakers like Wes Anderson, I began experimenting with still, symmetrical shots of architecture, adding my own unique twist with creative transitions. I use my surroundings to craft these transitions, incorporating the structures around me into the video’s flow. You can see examples of this style in my videos "Amsterdam 2024: Created by Peter North" and "London 2024: Created by Peter North."
In addition to the visual elements, I am deeply influenced by music. I believe music plays a key role in setting the tone of a video. I often use it to enhance my cut transitions, and more recently, I've been experimenting with music to help tell a story. An example of this can be seen in my video "What More Could You Need: Created by Peter North."
In September 2024, I took a major step forward in my videography journey by writing and producing a short film titled "We Were." I wrote the script, sourced the actors, and started shooting. After a day of shooting, I started editing. When editing, I realised that the film could take so many different approaches. I created the short film which can be found on my Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@ByPeterNorth.
